The Global War on Christians?

Posted: April 11, 2014 in Uncategorized
So I had to read this book The Global War on Christians by John L. Allen Jr. for Blogging For Books. Honestly, I didn’t enjoy this book. This book just screams written by a journalist. I was excited at first and while the book is loaded to the brim with factual information and sound arguments, it lacks feeling. It was just one story of persecution after another. Which of course is what the book was about but at times it was just mind numbing.
This is a rough book, I knew it would be going in. But I needed to read it. This is not an every day read. It is intense and gritty. It will make you stop and think. It will as he puts in the end.. make you wake up.
My biggest and basically only issue with the book is that no footnotes or bibliography is provided, hence checking his sources becomes shady. He basically tells us to just type in keywords and search for it.

It is what it is…3stars

Pleasures!!!

The Pleasures of God is by far one of the great books of our generation. John Piper is not only a clear and easy to follow theologian, he has a zeal and enthusiasm for the Person of God that is contagious.

The genre of this book is hard to peg. Its theology runs deep – very deep, yet it is at the same time devotional; it stretches the intellect but cuts straight to the heart. Piper’s style is truly unique. His convictions are unashamedly Biblical.

The essence of the book may be condensed down to this: God does just as He pleases. Yet this thesis opens a universe of implications and questions, some of which Piper addresses in the book’s ten chapters. They are titled, “The Pleasure of God in His Son, The Pleasure of God in All He Does, The Pleasure of God in His Creation, The Pleasure of God in His Fame, The Pleasure of God in Election, The Pleasure of God in Bruising the Son, The Pleasure of God in Doing Good to All Who Hope in Him, The Pleasure of God in the Prayers of the Upright, The Pleasure of God in Personal Obedience and Public Justice, and The Pleasure of God in Concealing Himself from the Wise and Revealing Himself to Infants.”
The Appendix, “Are There Two Wills in God? Divine Election and God’s Desire for All to Be Saved” is also worth reading and should be considered an eleventh chapter.

Piper’s God is the Sovereign God of the Bible. Although we can only understand what He has revealed, He makes no apology for being God nor for His nature; instead, He glories in Who He is. Because the believer is in union with Him through Christ, we are included in the great love felt between the Persons of the Trinity.

Piper takes the reader through numerous theological and daily issues, like election, why a good God would allow evil, foreign missions, prayer, the holiness of God, the Sovereignty of God, the purpose of Christ’s atonement – and a whole lot more.

I found that this book stretched not only my mind but my soul. World Magazine rightly included this volume on its list of the top 100 books of the Twentieth Century. It will take you a while to journey through these 340 thoughtful pages, but it will be a journey you will long remember

Love, Sex, and Happily Ever After by Craig Groeschell was a good book on one’s soul mate. Groeschell’s personality in this book will keep you smiling and possibly bring up so many different memories when you were trying to find “the one”. I absolutely love his picture of finding the true “one” so then you can find your “two”. This book is an easy read, with a high school /college level age range towards it. Though it is an easy read, Groeschell hits many good biblical points in dating and marriage. If you know a young christian dating or single that is looking for their life partner, this book would be a great start for them in hopefully finding the person that God has planned for them. Typically with Groescell’s books he is known to be everywhere when he writes. Like a 5 year with very bad A.D.D. If you can handle the writing style and are looking for a nice introductory on marriage then I recommend this book!

This is more of a vent session for me. Usually I just roll my eyes when I hear about the subject of the prosperity gospel and all the preachers that are filled with lies. But not right now. The right nerve finally pinched me and I have had enough.
The prosperity gospel for those that don’t really know is a false teaching that God blesses those who follow him with a great life, comfort, happiness, riches, and pretty much anything you ask for. They base their whole teaching on a few bible verses, not the actual Bible. Their are many different ways of going about the prosperity gospel as well, some like Benny Hinn tell you that you will be healed or your problem will be fixed  if you support him. Joel Olsteens is all about you, his books for example; It’s Your Time, Become A Better You, and Your Best Life now. Joyce Meyer, Eddie Long, and Kenneth Copeland are other examples of the Prosperity Gospel as well. Teachers of prosperity are teachers that people like to hear, it pleases them and makes them actually fill good about themselves. Hardly ever do people like these say what god wants. 1 Thess 2:4 tells us that it’s not about pleasing man, it’s only about pleasing god. Gal 1:10 backs this up by saying if you are just pleasing the ears of man and not god then you are not a servant of god. Rev 22:18 warns us about the changing and manipulation of his word. God’s words is the WORD of the ALMIGHTY GOD. He does not want us to change a single word much less get rid of everything and build your whole ministry/church off of a few verses that you copied and pasted together. The Bible says these people are worse than your regular sinners. These people are massaging the hearts of people seeking Jesus, God, Holy Spirit, and the Bible and ignoring the truth and telling you that you need what the world tells you that you need. You don’t need a luxurious, prideful, happy, comfortable, hunkey dorey life.  I’m gonna compare what the phony prosperity gospel teaches and how it compares to the bible.

  • These teachers would tell you that it’s great to be wealthy. The Bible should put fear into peoples eyes about being wealthy because JESUS SAYS straight up that it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than a rich man getting into heaven. Matt 19:24
  • They focus on  living a nice and comfortable life in their messages. JESUS SAYS foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head. Matt 8:20. Comfortable and cushy….really?
  • They say God’s word will make everyone happy and bring peace with everyone. JESUS SAYS Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. Matt 10:34. For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Hebrews 4:12.

I could throw out so many verses that completely goes against all these things and so much more. The Bible yells of suffering for Jesus because he suffered for you Phl 1:29. It says give god everything because it is already his Deu 8:17-18. Deny yourself, pick up your cross and follow me! Luk 9:23. If your not suffering for me then your not living the right way Matt 5:11-12! People hated Christ so they should hate you Luk 21:17.Your suppose to be humble, not prideful Pro 11:2. I could go on and on and on! But I don’t have the time to dissect the whole word of god right now.

I was once on a suffering kick and all I read for the longest time was about suffering for Christ. I still fully believe that you need too, but also realize there is joy and happiness in suffering like your savior. One of the videos I watched during this time period was a sermon by Francis Chan talking about the question, Is Suffering Optional? It was a great question and I was looking for the answer. Like me now, he does not have the time to give you all the verses but he does take the time to point out the subject of suffering for Christ in at every book of the New Testimate. Here is a link to the first video of a four part message. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niELvHvbR6U. Be sure to watch the rest as well.

I just think it’s crazy how the most popular speakers/evangelist/pastors are really teaching a lie when really this book called The Bible teaches something far greater than what the world talks about. It’s really hard to explain the joy, peace, and happiness in suffering and truly following Jesus but that’s when the Holy Spirit truly comforts you. Not when you have your eyes on other things other than God. Really I believe that God’s true speakers should be making money, but I only say that with the expectation that they would give it all away. And it’s not all about money, the lies are in this gospel about you. Their is no gospel about you. The gospel means the “Good News” and their is no “Good News” in this world except the Savior of it. He brought the good news to a corrupted world saturated with sin and gave hope to his followers. Jesus does not owe us a thing. Look around, he is still giving you life, not because you deserve it. But he provides us grace so that we can use it to worship him. That’s all that it’s about is Him. Not about what we want or think is right, but what He wants and what He thinks is right. Once again, we need to deny ourselves, pick up our cross, and start following.

It has been about a week since the death of the most wanted man in the world, Usama Bin Ladin. It has been crazy this past week. It’s actually amazing to see how the death of one person has brought America closer and the people becoming more patriotic. A lot of things have entered my mind this past week through the death of Bin Ladin, and the American people that have rose up with their hatred towards Bin Ladin and their pride in their country. I am having so many crazy thoughts that just don’t fit what everyone else in America is thinking. I feel God has really spoke to me this past week, so I feel like my first couple of topics on this site should be about what the Bible says about the topics going on lately. These topics can be very controversial, Christians that read this might really get ticked off but hey, it’s biblical, so I hope you read this with an open heart, and have a biblical sense when you read this. Non Christians will definitely disagree with the subject but hopefully everyone understands that it’s not about being a proud American, it’s about being more and more like Christ.

Everyone in this country has hated Bin Ladin as far as I can remember. The tragic events of 9/11 has really fueled the fire the American people had towards him. For almost ten years, we have started war, and have been on the search for Usama Bin Ladin. We were looking to avenge the deaths of the lost ones from 9/11 and we have never forgot the deaths in are search. Well, we finally got him. We gave just to a horrific man, that deserved to die because of what he did. He is completely evil, wicked and filled with sin and deserves eternity in hell. These statements that I just said, is all I am hearing from supposedly Christians. I am hearing all these statements and I am just wondering, have you completely forgot about the Jesus and God’s grace in your own act to be a prideful American? Really? We are rejoicing in the horrendous eternal sentencing of a man that has sin. Were talking about a person that is evil like we are good. This man don’t deserve God’s grace but we do? I’m not hating America for killing a man that triggered this war that we are in, but I am disgusted in the way some Christians are acting to this news. Here’s a couple of verses from the Bible that really go against the actions that have been showed lately.

  • Matt 5:44-(But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,) Love your enemies? Even if they persecute us? Well…if it’s thousands of people this verse opts out.
  • John 8:7-(If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.) Are you now trying to say that we are equal to this man? I’m better!
  • Romans 3:10-( as it is written:”There is none righteous, not even one) What about me?

Now I’m not trying to defend this man. Clearly he was full of sin, and what he did was wrong. But Christians should look at this from a different perspective. A BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVE! We see that Jesus loved everyone, even the people that put him on the cross and persecuted him. We are suppose to be more like this man. A man that loved everyone no matter what they did. Bin Ladin obviously was not a believer in Christ but still, i believe you can receive God’s grace even if you are a mass murderer terrorist. Look at the greatest preacher of all time, Paul. This man, like Bin Ladin was responsible for the death of many many people. God’s grace is bigger than sin. We are all filled with sin. The difference between us and them is that we have God’s grace. Now there is definitely scripture that backs up God satisfying himself in giving just to other, but he also is sadden for the lost. I recommend reading John Piper’s post on the mixed emotions of God and the Death of Bin Ladin. Here is the link: http://www.desiringgod.org/blog/posts/is-god-glad-osama-bin-ladens-dead

Once again, I am not hating on our government, America as a country, or the people. But Christians should remember what Jesus says about loving everyone. Even the worst of the worst. We are called to be different than this place we live in. This society admins what comes around goes around. Christians should not look at this the same. We should understand that anyone can receive God’s grace no matter how sinful they are.

What I’m about

Posted: May 9, 2011 in Uncategorized

This is my first blog ever. To give you an overview on how I am, I will start off with saying that my name is Aaron Davis. I am a follower of Jesus Christ, and I am constantly striving to be more like Christ. Of course I am always failing, but God has always helped me overcome the rocks and boulders in the path of becoming more like Him. The blogs that will be posted on here will all be Christ centered. Some of them might be controversial, but they all will be biblical. I am far from an expert theologian, but I do feel like I understand the Bible. I am still reading it, and hearing God’s own words through it so there will always be room for growth. I hope whoever reads these enjoy these and I would really love feedback. I feel God really wants me to start doing this so keep me and  this blog site in your prayers, because all I am trying to do is what i feel God wants from me. Thank you!
